Linen
- Our linen is pre-shrunk and specially treated for color retention to help minimize shrinkage and color fading or bleeding. When cared for according to these instructions, only minimal shrinkage and color transfer may occur, including after the first wash.
- Machine wash cold with like colors on a gentle cycle. Some color fading or bleeding may occur, especially during the first few washes, so washing with similar colors is recommended.
- Tumble dry low and remove promptly, or air dry according to the care label.
Iron on low heat if needed. For a smoother finish, turn the garment inside out and use low to medium heat or steam, as permitted by the care label. - Do not use chlorine bleach. Use a non-chlorine, oxygen-based bleach only if permitted by the care label.
To help prevent discoloration, avoid prolonged contact with sweat, deodorants, antiperspirants, perfumes, or skincare products. - Wrinkles are a natural part of linen’s character, so ironing is optional. See our full Linen Care Guide for more care tips.
Wool Cashmere Blend
- Professional dry cleaning is recommended. If the care label allows washing, hand wash in cold water or use a wool cycle with a mild detergent formulated for wool or cashmere.
- Avoid soaking, rubbing, wringing, twisting, or excessive agitation. Gently press out excess water, reshape, and lay flat to dry.
- Do not hang to dry, tumble dry, or use bleach. If ironing is necessary, use low heat from the reverse side or steam gently on a low setting.
Cashmere
- Professional dry cleaning is recommended. If the care label allows washing, gently hand wash in cold water with a detergent formulated for cashmere.
- Do not soak, rub, wring, twist, or use fabric softener.
- Gently blot excess water with a clean towel, reshape, and lay flat to dry. Do not hang to dry, tumble dry, or use bleach.
- Gentle low-temperature steaming may be used if needed. Avoid direct high-heat ironing.
Soft Blends
- Machine wash cold with like colors on a gentle cycle.
- Turn the garment inside out before washing to help reduce friction and pilling.
- Tumble dry low or air dry; avoid high heat, which may cause shrinkage, distortion, or reduced elasticity. Iron on low heat, preferably from the reverse side.
- Do not use chlorine bleach. Avoid prolonged contact with sweat, perfume, deodorant, antiperspirant, or skincare products.
Silk Velvet
- Professional Dry Cleaning: Professional dry cleaning is recommended. Do not machine wash, as machine agitation can damage the velvet pile and silk base fabric, causing flattening of the velvet pile or permanent distortion.
- Detergent: Use only a mild, pH-neutral detergent specifically formulated for silk. Avoid harsh or alkaline detergents, which may cause silk to become stiff, brittle, yellowed, or faded.
- Hand Washing: If the care label permits hand washing, wash the garment gently by hand in cold water or lukewarm water below 30°C (86°F). Do not use hot water. Add a small amount of pH-neutral silk detergent and allow it to dissolve completely. Turn the garment inside out and immerse it in the water for about 5 minutes. Gently press the fabric to clean. Do not rub, scrub, wring, or twist. After rinsing, gently press out excess water, reshape the garment, and lay it flat to dry indoors in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
Bamboo
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors. Avoid bleach and high heat. Lay flat to dry, or follow the garment care label for the recommended drying method. Iron on low heat if needed. Always follow the care label inside the garment, as care requirements may vary depending on the fabric construction and trims. Do not dry clean.
Everyday answers
When your wardrobe needs a little help.
How do I know when professional dry cleaning is best?
Professional dry cleaning is recommended for wool, cashmere, and silk & velvet. Always follow the care label first, and only hand wash when the label specifically allows it.
How can I help prevent pilling on soft blends?
Turn the garment inside out before washing, use a gentle cycle with like colors, and avoid high heat and unnecessary friction. Care for the most delicate fiber in the blend.
Can I hang or tumble dry wool and cashmere?
No. Generally avoid hanging or tumble-drying wool and cashmere. Follow the care label if it explicitly allows a different method.
What should I do if the care label differs from this guide?
The care label on your garment is the final authority. This guide offers general material-based advice, but garment construction, dye, finish, and blend composition may require different care.
What is the safest way to remove wrinkles?
Steam is usually the gentlest option. If ironing is needed, turn the garment inside out, use the lowest suitable temperature, and avoid pressing directly on delicate surfaces such as velvet. Always follow the care label for the correct heat setting.
