4 Tips for Washing Your Linen
Low-temperature Washing
Linen can be washed at a maximum of 40 degrees. “Will my linen cover be completely clean and fresh again at 40 degrees?”, you may be thinking. We can answer Yes to that with 100% certainty. Washing at 30-40 degrees is enough for linen. This is because linen does not contain dust mites. A mild detergent and a low temperature will ensure fresh, soft linen bedding. And another advantage, it is more durable and economical. Do you wash linen at a high temperature? Then there is a chance that the fiber of the linen will break. Then a small hole is created that gets bigger and bigger the more often you wash it.
Choose the Right Detergent
Linen is made from a natural fiber (the flax plant). This fiber is strong but likes powerful detergents that act very much on the dust. Even then there is a chance of the fiber breaking. Choose mild (plastic-free) natural detergent or laundry strips. This is good for the linen and the environment.
Don’t Use Fabric Softener
Linen may feel a bit harder after washing. But don’t use fabric softener to soften linen. There are other ways to do that. Fabric softener puts a greasy layer over the fabric. Dry at A Low Temperature Or on A Clothesline
Dry it on the clothesline that is the most durable. If you want the Linen a little softer, put it in the dryer on a low temperature when the linen is almost dry. Would you rather dry it in the dryer? Then you can do that, too. Again, low temperature. In summary, linen does not like heat and strong stain removing detergents.
